Car Review: 2008 C300 Sport Sedan

Car Review
2008 C300 Sport Sedan

Mercedes-Benz’s new C-Class sedans are a bit of a departure from previous ones.  Although they maintain the Mercedes durability and luxury, the new C300 cars are much sportier than the previous generation of C-Class Benz models. And the customers are eating them up. In fact, the new models have outsold the previous ones by more than 60 percent, according to Mercedes-Benz’s official sales records.

Maybe that’s because there’s something for everyone in these vehicles, whether you want new looks or more power.  Engineers at Mercedes-Benz simplified the line-up by including only two types, Luxury and Sport, but they gave each vehicle some distinctive features.  You can immediately see the differences in the front ends.   The Luxury model retains the style of the previous generation, with a chrome grille and the iconic star ornament sitting atop the hood. In the Sport model, there is no hood ornament and the grille is the same color as the body of the car.

But the differences between the Sport and Luxury don’t stop there. The Luxury model has more chrome trim all over the body of the vehicle, while the Sport’s main attraction is the maple wood interior and aluminum-studded pedals. The Sport option also has 17-inch alloy wheels and a tighter suspension system for those fast turns and aggressive driving habits.

Under the hood is a whole other story, as the main focus of the C-Class is performance.  Drivers will undoubtedly want to test the limits of the C300’s 3.0-liter V6 engine that gives the car nearly 230 horsepower. In the C350, there is an even bigger 3.5-liter V6 engine with about 270 horsepower. Buyers can also choose between a standard six-speed manual transmission and a seven-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to a better look and a bigger engine, the C300 line includes a quicker steering ratio with an improved hydraulic power steering unit. Whether you’re looking for a parking spot or making an emergency turn at 35 mph, the improved steering unit makes the entire driving experience much safer.

The new C300 and C350 also include more room on the inside to make it easier to move around more comfortably.  Overall, the C-Class vehicles are four inches longer than the previous generation. Legroom and headroom are adequate, but there isn’t much extra room to stretch out in because of the placement of the seats. But the options more than make up for any problems you might have with the 2008 C-Class. Heated seats, a six-disc CD changer, a 12-speaker 450-watt surround sound system, and a 30-GB media system make the new C-Class models some of the best in the industry. And with a price just over $30,000, almost anybody can afford to ride in luxury.
